Arik Air gets fresh international certification

Arik Air has become the latest African airline to be listed on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) ground operations manual (IGOM) registry.
IGOM registry displays companies who were able to demonstrate full compliance with the IGOM procedures.
The IGOM certificate was presented to Arik Air earlier in the month by Albakri Mohammad Ali, IATA’s regional vice-president, Africa and Middle East, at Arik Air Aviation Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.
The IATA ground operations manual concept was initiated by IATA for the industry with the objective of having one internationally recognized standard for ground handling processes.
IGOM defines ground handling standards for airlines and ground service providers to ensure ground operations activities are safely, efficiently, and consistently accomplished. Procedures reflect the minimum standards as identified by the aviation industry.

Ground Operations are an essential task for all airlines and ground service providers to deliver smooth turnarounds and on time departures, with safety being the number one priority.
The IATA Board of Governors has set a target (50% of member airlines in 2016) to start to implement the IATA Ground Operation Manual (IGOM) as their minimum standard for ground operations.
Arik Air started the rigorous certification process in 2016, but was only able to achieve this after it regained its place as the largest carrier in west and central Africa — after a well-managed crisis.
Roy Ilegbodu, the airline’s chief executive officer, said of the team at Arik is delighted with the new IGOM feat.
“We are highly elated to be among the airlines listed on the IGOM registry. This listing shows our commitment to operational efficiency and our customers can always expect excellent travel experience from Arik Air,” he said.
Arik Air has been a member of IATA since 2011 and has passed the IATA safety operations audit (IOSA) on three occasions leading to the enhanced IOSA

The Election Result They Want In Osun

The Election Result They Want In Osun I f the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had its way, its candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, would have been declared governor that day. The party is so upset with the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the election inconclusive, that it has threatened dire consequences should the result go the other way. Adeleke scored 254,698 votes, giving him 353 votes more than his main rival and candidate of the All Progressives Party, Gboyega Oyetola. But 3,498 potentially consequential votes were unaccounted for. Yet there are those who insist that by simple majority, Adeleke should have been declared winner. Why is INEC wasting time? As the parties return to the seven polling units in the four local councils that will finally decide the election, it appears that it is not only PDP that wants Adeleke declared winner, anyhow. In the run-up to the electi...

Trump Says Military Is ‘Locked and Loaded’ and North Korea Will ‘Regret’ Threats Leer en español 1562 A-10 planes lined up for takeoff on Thursday from the United States Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. YONHAP / REUTERS AUGUST 11, 2017 BRIDGEWATER, N.J. —  President Trump  issued yet more provocative warnings of military action against  North Korea  on Friday as he continued to suggest that he was ready to strike the small, isolated Asian country that has been developing  nuclear weapons  capable of reaching the United States. Even as he kept up the drumbeat against Pyongyang, Mr. Trump suggested that he was also contemplating the use of armed force closer to home, in Venezuela, where the government has moved to close down the opposition parliament after a fraud-plagued referendum while the country spirals deeper into poverty and dysfunction. Asked about the crisis there, Mr. Trump volunteered the possib...
